Every year, almost 10,000 people with intellectual disabilities gather at the Sølund Festival. Here they are together for 3 days, where they listen to good music, among other things. But this year it was only just held and the future of the festival hangs in the balance.
Now Jonathan Løw has joined the fight to save the festival. And there’s a very personal reason for that.
“My mother worked as an educator and was often with residents at the festival. I’ve been there a few times myself, and it’s in every way a fantastic party where you do something for people who are not like most of us,” says Jonathan Løw in an interview to tv2østjylland.
Still a long way to go
At the time of writing, over 180,000 DKK has already been raised.
But even though the money has poured in, there is still some way to go before the festival is saved.
“Every year, nearly 10,000 people with intellectual disabilities celebrate life at this amazing festival. They are together for 3 days to listen to great music; form new friendships and maybe find a cute girlfriend.
It’s hard to believe that such a festival can be threatened with closure, but it IS. That’s why I started the fundraiser, and you guys are SO COOL. Let’s be even more rock’n’roll together,” he says in a Linkedin post.
