The Binding Mill, with its charming and welcoming atmosphere, is not just a place to work; it’s also a community that inspires growth, mergers and personal relationships. It’s a coworking space where flexibility is valued, where new opportunities are discovered and alliances formed.
“Throughout the many years we have been located in central Aarhus, we have had tenants who have grown, merged with each other after discovering new opportunities together,” the owner of the truss, Rasmus Hansen tells Techsavvy. media and continues
“There’s room for everyone here, and we’ve even had two cases where people have joined forces and started new co-working spaces elsewhere in the city because they believed they could do it differently and better. It’s great that we can inspire that kind of thing here.”
The truss, a flexible construction for entrepreneurs
Bindingsværket was founded 23 years ago with the goal of providing a flexible and supportive environment for entrepreneurs. Over the years, the site has evolved to house a diversity of businesses, from start-ups to established and sole traders that have grown to include up to 15 employees.
The shared office space appeals to a variety of tenants, with a wide range of different age groups. It offers an informal environment where both start-ups and established businesses can thrive.
The success and longevity is due in no small part to its flexibility; businesses can easily adjust their rental costs up and down as their needs change. That’s why they talk about snapshots. For example, there are periods when tenants use many spaces in connection with a project, and other periods when the spaces are made up of several smaller companies.
But it’s more than just a workplace. It’s a place where you can’t help but get to know each other, thanks to the cozy and informal environment. This has led to the formation of strong relationships, alliances and even family extensions – two marriages and two children have directly resulted from this close network. It’s a community more than an office, explains Rasmus Hansen and elaborates:
“The Bindery is a place where alliances are formed, but most importantly, it’s a place that binds people together. It’s the relationships here that are in high demand. In my 23 years, I’ve also witnessed two marriages that started here with us.”
Rasmus describes the timber frame as an environment of “positive noise” and lots of life that has proven to be fruitful.
A mix of informal environment and low prices
The informal culture makes the environment flourish in the community through individual initiative. From Friday bars to spontaneous trips around the city, each member contributes to creating a unique atmosphere that fosters both the professional and the personal.
At the same time, they offer some of the city’s lowest prices for office space, which is partly due to the fact that owner Rasmus Hansen runs three businesses and thus has several sources of income that allow him to keep prices down.
Standing as a testament to community and entrepreneurship, The Bindery proves that success is not only measured in growth and profit, but also in the relationships and experiences that flourish in an environment built on support and collaboration. For entrepreneurs in Aarhus and the surrounding area, it’s more than an office; it’s a place that brings people closer together.
