An intense battle is currently taking place in both the Danish and global market for online payment solutions – the so-called payment gateways, where established international players are flexing their muscles to attract new customers.

Several Danish players have also gained a solid foothold in the industry. One of them is OnPay, which is currently experiencing strong growth. New figures from the company show that the portfolio of active stores has increased by over 1,000 in the past six months. According to OnPay, the growth is the result of a new go-to-market strategy launched last year.

“Back in 2023, we decided to make a strategic shift in how we approach the market. Initially, we only used OnPay for our own webshops, but due to market conditions and high demand, we also decided to offer it for a wide range of other shops, including WooCommerce, Magento and open APIs. This has really given us the wind in our sails,” says Erik Bruun, E-commerce Sales Director at OnPay.

14 seconds response time

As a payment solution, OnPay offers several features that, according to Erik Bruun, provide crucial competitive advantages compared to the brand’s other players. Among other things, he highlights the fast customer support as an important part of customer loyalty:

“We clearly notice that many people choose us, as our payment solution is fully integrated with popular features such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Viabill,” says Erik Bruun and continues

– Another advantage in our industry is that our price structure is very transparent. At the same time, we take great pride in being ultra-fast in our support. Our average response time on the phone is 14 seconds.”

Five-fold increase in sight

The strategic focus and the growth achieved means that OnPay has set an ambitious target for the next 12 months:

“We expect to get 5,000 new stores on OnPay over the next year. This will be achieved by building on the momentum we are experiencing right now. The growth will be driven by several elements including onboarding more partners, Dandomain referral partners and a strengthened marketing effort. Therefore, we have introduced a benefit program where we offer 20 percent passive commission to referral partners such as web agencies,” explains Erik Bruun.

OnPay was born back in 2016 and has until now run as a sub-product of Dandomain, which organizationally belongs to the IT company team.blue.
