From June 28, 2025, new European legislation on accessibility will come into force. This will affect how companies structure their digital platforms, as many currently do not have sufficient focus on accessibility for visually impaired people, for example.
Lasse Øster Jørgensen, UX Director at GORM x ENVISION in Aarhus, Denmark, believes that the approach to the changes should go beyond compliance with legislation. It can also be good business to create inclusive digital experiences for everyone.
“I hope this law will encourage companies to take accessibility seriously and make it a shared responsibility across all teams, not just something that designers, developers and content editors have to deal with. Ideally, companies will realize that being inclusive is not only ethically correct, but also a wise financial decision as it opens up new growth and revenue opportunities,” says Lasse Øster Jørgensen, who has spent the last 20 years developing great user experiences for a wide range of well-known brands.
Shouldn’t be about laws and fines
Lasse Øster Jørgensen hopes that the new legislation can create a more inclusive digital environment. But this requires companies to be ready to genuinely adapt to create good user experiences and not just focus on introducing measures to avoid fines.

“Those who act early will not only ensure regulatory compliance, but can also gain a competitive advantage. In Denmark, for example, the number of elderly people is increasing, with almost a million people now over 70 years old. Many of them will benefit greatly from accessible web solutions, making this demographic a significant opportunity in itself,” says Lasse Øster Jørgensen.
He believes that there are many challenges and many companies fundamentally lack the necessary expertise to properly implement accessibility standards in their existing work processes. Therefore, GORM x ENVISION in collaboration with Tech City Aarhus invites you to a breakfast meeting on November 7th, where you can learn more about the new legislation and how to use it as an advantage.
“In a hopefully interesting way, I would like to emphasize the importance of taking accessibility seriously. Not as the only truth, but as a crucial factor in creating great user experiences. My goal is to help participants see accessibility not as an extra burden, but as a way to improve the user experience and expand their audience, which will ultimately drive growth,” says Lasse Øster Jørgensen.
