You are the protagonist in a post-apocalyptic future. A tinkerer who fights evil by rediscovering ancient technologies: Old world artefacts that have mysterious powers.

A detailed narrative is plotted out for Project Repo, the upcoming game from the young game studio brainglyph, which Giorgio Perri and Søren Skouv co-founded. Yet the narrative takes a back seat: the gameplay is the most important thing, and much of the work so far has been exploring how to combine two familiar game genres into a new recipe – what the founders call a knowlegde-based rouguelike experience

“We are trying to get our dreams to become a reality: To create games. With Project Repo, we merge two genres that haven’t been merged before. The unique part about the game is the marriage of complex game-systems and knowledge-based progression. Instead of becoming stronger by getting new weapons, you do so by getting more knowledgeable about what you already have,” Giorgio Perri explains.

Meet brainglyph – and 4 other promising startups at the Digital Tech Summit

– Five startups have been selected from Danish universities to pitch their solution at this year’s Digital Tech Summit in Øksnehallen on October 30. October.

– Digital Tech Summit is the largest Deep Tech Event in the Nordics: 3,000 have already signed up.

Mystery and discovery is a big driver in Project Repo You are not told what they do but learn by doing For example you get a circuit board where you can put things in Depending on the order the outcome of your weapon is different and you dont get a receipe

Master thesis as an incubator

Both founders studied for a Master of Games at ITU and have been building their games studio, brainglyph, full-time since they graduated this summer. However, the first hard steps were taken during their master’s thesis.

“We used our thesis as a small incubator. We purposefully developed the hardest things about the game as part of our thesis. So all the biggest risks were solved when we started the company – and now it’s just a matter of time before we can complete the game,” says Søren Skouv.

The two founders both worked in the software industry before switching tracks to pursue their dream of developing games. A passion for games drives their career change, but they are also very aware that the game needs to become a business if they are to continue developing games. That’s why they have managed to persuade gaming veteran Søren Lundgaard (CEO of Ghost Ship Games) to be an advisor and have spent a lot of time diving into the business behind the game.

“We are tech graduates, not business graduates, but business is essential if we want to do it for real. We spent at least a month full-time, both of us, focused on applying for Innofounder, and we learned a ton about the business side. That is also why we developed the game systems – the risky systems – first, as it de-risks our journey going forward,” says Søren Skouv.
