Tech leader: “Technology was the answer to everything. But then I realized that the human factor is super important”

It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice. That’s the mantra Tommy Dejbjeg Pedersen lives by. This philosophy drives his approach to creating a positive and supportive work environment, where humor and levity are essential tools for building strong relationships and fostering a culture of openness.

With over three decades of experience in tech, Tommy Dejbjerg Pedersen, CSO at Knowit, has plenty of stories to share. As part of the Tech City Aarhus event program on Thursday 12 September, he will share his knowledge and start the dialogue on effective and healthy leadership.

“Aarhus is the world’s smallest city, and its size is ideal for connecting all the great companies and tech people. It is vital for Knowit and other tech companies to be part of the city community and benefit from the expertise of our tech community,” says Tommy Dejbjerg Pedersen.

For Tommy Dejbjerg Pedersen, it is essential to be an active part of the tech community and continue sharing knowledge – something he hopes to further promote through his work at Knowit and as a member of Tech City Aarhus.

Tech leader with soft skills

After graduating as a computer assistant from Aarhus Business College, Tommy Dejbjerg Pedersen embarked on a self-taught journey in the tech industry – a decision he considers a major driver for his career. His experience ranges from developer to designer in various industries, from startups to large corporations, which has given him an extensive insight into the management aspect.

“I started my career thinking that technology was the answer to everything. But then I realized that the human factor is super important for technology projects to succeed,” says Tommy Dejbjerg Pedersen.

His transition from technical roles to leadership was motivated by his realization that success in tech depends as much on understanding people as on technical expertise. This insight inspired him to leverage his personal soft skills to motivate and lead teams – a role he finds deeply satisfying.
